In the 1970s Kent lived mostly in Regina, studying at the University of Regina’s Drama Department as part of their very first BFA program. He dropped out after about 18 months, deciding instead to gain his experience by working. He worked with many amateur theatre groups as well as taking what professional work was available. He was in his 20s at the time and to earn money he worked at a Coop grocery store, which is what his father did for decades as well.
